Tai Lihua:Choosing a Positive Outlook

      Since 2004,millions of TV and online viewers have been drawn to the unforgettable"Thousand-Hand Guan Yin" performance  by the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe(CDPPAT). Tai Lihua,the current president and director of the CDPPAT,appears at the beginning of the dance as the only face in a lively sea of dancing arms and hands.The Goddess of Mercy is a powerful symbol for people with disabilities because she shows love and kindness. Tai Lihua and her 20 co-dancers are all deaf.

      Tai Lihua was a beautiful happy child growing up in her hometown in Hubei,but she couldn't hear.At the age of two,after a failed treatment for a fever,she lost her hearing.At seven,she entered a special school for deaf children.It was there that she became attracted to dance by feeling the music made by hei teacher's drum.

      In the beginning , Tai Lihua wasn't very good at dancing,but she loves it and squeezed in time to practice as much as possible.Her method was to memorize,repeat and memorize again.She has performed in over 30coutries.

      Today she is part of new geeneration of Chinese artists,musicians,dancers and athletes with disabilities,who are changing the ideas of the past and showing that their abilities are far more important.Instead of being sad with her disability ,she is happy about the opportunities she and others with diabilities have..

      Even though people with disabilities,like Tai Lihua,face many problems,they are giving others the courage to discover their own talents,to insist on their rights for better education and to develop their own abilities.Every single one of us can contribute to making the world a better place.
