Question:1.What's the author meet in his life?

2.What's the difference between Canada and China ?

    Differences between Canada and China

Since I have been living in Canada for five years, I have found lots of differences between Chinese culture and Western culture, or the mainstream culture of North American per se. I will not exemplify the superficial differences here, such as Chinese use chopsticks and Westerns use forks and knifes. I will show you guys something that is welcome, acceptable and not offensive in one and reversed in the other. I hope this would help you if you want to learn Chiese culture or make friends with Chinese; here I mean the Chinese from China, not the Chinese born or grew up in Western countries.

First, talking loudly in restaurant. In Chinese culture, it is totally acceptable to talk loundly in a restaurant. Chinese people like to chat and share everthing with friend, and even talk about business around the dinner table. But in Canada, the most of restaurants are not that loud as Chinese restaurants. Some, to me, are very extreamly silent!

Second, telling the truth or white lies? My ex is not Chinese. Once she got mad on me because I told her truth and hurt her feelings. She asked me, "What do you thnik about my new jean?" Well, in my culture, for that kinds of questions, I just simply told her what I was really thinking, " This jean doen't fit you." LOL. So she got pissed off. Why I was being a "duchebag" to her? Because I was't familiar with Western culture and I still don't fully know about it. My point here is not implying that Chinese people always say the truths but take considerations to what kinds of questions are being asked. For that question, I think the most of Chinese will say the truth because "This jean doen't fit you" doesn't mean "You are ugly" or "You are ugly so it doesn't fit you", nothing personal. For another example, once I got a really bad haircut. My friends, they are Chinese, just told me "Your new haricut is so dumb!" I did't take ant offence or feel mad because my friends are not saying "You are ugly" to my body but to my new haircut. The underying words are "This barber is so stupid!". Anyway, I learned my lesson. So when someone ask me, "Hey! What do you think about my....", I will just say, "It's looks great!", "WOW, it is awesome!", "WOW, it is so beautiful!" reagradless how I really think about it.

But, there are something that Chinese people lie about. For example, receiving presents. When you are giving a gift to a Chinese person, probably the first response you get is not "Thank you!" but "You are too generous! No gift is needed!" or in Chinese "你太客气了!还买什么礼物!" Sometimes, Chinese people will "refuse" your present, but, on purpose. Don't take offensive or get hurted if your Chinese friend tried to refuse your present. Why? In Chinese culture, you need to and some times have to refuse someone's gift. Because if you don't, this means you are greegy and you are showing your greed! But eventually you friend will accept you gift for sure, he/she will just do that at the begining. However, if you want to act like "Chinese" when you are receiving a gift from your Chinese friend, you should watch the language you use. Please don't say "Sorry, I can't take this", in Chinese"对不起!这个礼物我不能收!" It is very offensive! It's not the way to be "not greedy". You use the one above "你太客气了!还买什么礼物!" or "大家都是熟人,搞得这么破费!”, in English, "We are friends! You don't need to do this! It must costed you a lot!"
