One day, a hare（野兔） was bragging about（吹牛） his speed to the other animals. “I have never been beaten in a race,” he said. “When I run full speed, no one can beat me. Who wants to try?” Then he made fun of the short legs and slow speed of a tortoise.

    The tortoise said quietly, “Although you might be fast, I will beat you in a race.”
    “That is a good joke,” said the hare, “I could dance around you all the way, and still win the race.”
    “Don’t brag until you have won the race,” answered the tortoise. “Shall we race?”
    The two began the race side by side. The hare zoomed almost out of sightat once(很快的跑出了视野之外). But soon he stopped and said, “That tortoise can’t beat me!” He wasn’t worried, so he lay down to have a nap. The tortoise never stopped for a moment, but crawled（爬行） always toward the finish line.
    When the hare woke up from his nap, he saw the tortoise almost at the finish line. He tried to catch up the tortoise, but he couldn’t.
