Wales is in the west of Great Britain. It's a small area, smaller than Scotland and England. Not many people live in Wales — about 3 million. Most of them live in the south of Wales. Wales is a beautiful place, with lots of hills in the south and mountains in the north. Mount Snowdon, in the north, is 1,085 metres high. Wales has some important rivers, too. The River Severn is about 290 kilometres long. Only the River Thames is longer. The capital of Wales is Cardiff. It has a population of about 300,000. It rains a lot in Cardiff. Today Cardiff is a busy and interesting city. It's a modern city, too. It's only about 100 years old.
