    Mary is an American schoolgirl. She was in Beijing with her parents last year. She didn't know Chinese, but she was trying to study. She often tried to speak Chinese to her Chinese friends. Sometimes her friends didn't understand her, because she couldn't speak Chinese well.

    One Saturday morning, Mary went out. She was on her way to the park. She was going there to see a flower show. But she didn't know how to get there. She asked a Chinese boy. The boy couldn't understand her. The she took out a pen and some paper. She drew flowers on it, gave the picture to the boy and said something about it. The boy smiled and then showed Mary the way to the park.
