<Note-taking> Class Date: Oct. 8th

-Experimentation-

Before the class, there was an assignment that we have to make a proposal for experiment. In our class, Students presented 7 proposals on the lcell. We were vote for the paper which one is the best. (teacher didn’t name on it) As a result, Hongfah and Iulia’s proposal won. So we conducted that proposal real in our class. Before play an experiment, each team briefly introduced their experimentation.

1)Trashcan basketball: Ladies vs. Bros- How competition enhance their performance? Does group activity enhance individual performance? Can competition motivate people individually or in group?

2)The effect of rewards on class attendance of the high school students- what specific rewards are more effective on motivation of class attendance?

3)Investigating the effectiveness on the use of Learning Aides (AVL) in Chinese Language teaching.

5)Do we need mandatory class attendance in higher education?- The effect of mandatory class vs optional class attendance.

6)A case study on the merits and demerits of self study and formal study.

7)Broken telephone- read and memorize and than pass to the next person. We will check which group was able to remember and pass more facts, did boys remember better story related to sports and did girls remember better story related to fashion?

The experiment 7 is adopted. So we conducted that experiment real in our class. Hongfah and Iulia prepared ppt, rule, and game instruments. But there is something changed. The method of memorizing is not broken telephon but use some kind of imagine. The name is ‘how to easily remember the important anniversary’ like bithday.

Firt, conductor write 5 classmate’s birthday on the blackboard. We try to memorize them during 3minutes. The conductor erase bithday date and have 2 minutes break time. After take a break, check our memorize. Second, following conductor’s instruction, we make new words and match them to bithday. e.g.) december-christmas, three-triangle. So, sohpie’s birhday is december 3rd. We can memory her birthday as ‘the triangle is under the christmas tree.’

We enjoyed experiment. Althouht we can’t find out how effective this is. Because English is not our mother tongue so imagine in english is a little bit difficult to us. After play an experiment we had a lecture.

We learned some of the basic concept of experiment. The key terms are independent, dependent variables, random assignment, one-group pretest-posttest design.

The independent variable is X, the dependent variable is Y. So, this formula 『f(X)=Y』 is well describe the relationship between them. And the experiment that we did in our class is kind of one-group pretest-posttest design. Different techniques are used to manipulate different kinds of experimentation.
