In China, rice has been grown for the past 4,000 years.

Today, it is the world's largest producer of rice. Much of this success is due to the hard work of Yuan Longping, the 'Father of Hybrid Rice'. Yuan is the most famous 'rice scientist' in China.

In the 1970s, he produced a type of rice plant that could grow many rice grains.

Over the years, he continued to improve on the rice plant and thanks to Yuan's hard work, China's rice production increased a lot. Today, Yuan's special rice plant is used in many countries, including America. Yuan is still trying to improve his rice plant. He wants to help the poor countries grow cheaper and better rice so that every country in the world has got enough food to eat.
