      Marie Sklodowska Curie and her four sisters and brothers were taught at home by their parents who were passionate school teachers.By the time she was 11 years old,she had suffered a lot,because her mother and her elder sister had both passed away.With the stress of life and study,she suffered from a nervous condition that left her very tired.

      Marie worked and raised the money for herself and her sister to study in France.During her free time she would read books on her favourite subjects of maths,physics,and chemistry.She went to Paris to study at the Sorbonne.She worked very hard and in 1884 she gained a scholarship to study and do research in Pierre Curie’s lab.Their working relationship grew into love and they got married.

      Their early research was often done under difficult and even dangerous laboratory conditions.They were not wealthy,so they also taught many hours of classes for extra income.

      She researched into the science of radioactivity.She is best known for discovering the radioactive elements—polonium and radium and as the only person to win two Nobel prize.She did not patent her discoveries but made them available to everyone.She encouraged the use of  X-ray for medical treatment.But she was not sufficiently aware of the dangers of radium and died of leukemia brought on by too much contact with radium.
