Jane: Do you keep pets?
Tom: Oh, no. I don't keep any pets.
Jane: I have one.
Tom: What's it? A rabbit? A bird? A cat or a dog?
Jane: It's a puppy. Have you ever thought of keeping a pet?
Tom: You bet! Thousands of times.
Tom: Mum, Jane has a puppy.
Mum: A puppy is lovely.
Tom: Could I have a pet of mine?
Mum: Why not? Which animal would you choose as a pet?
Tom: Let me see. I think an elephant would be a nice pet because it could squirt water(喷水) and wash dad's car.
Mum: But an elephant would be too noisy.
Tom: That's right. What about crocodile. I could ride in the water on its back.
Mum: That sounds great. But you raise a crocodile at home?
Tom: That's a problem. A crocodile would probably bite the furniture. A puppy is lovely. So is a kitty.
Mum: That's good. When you choose a pet, you must look after it yourself.
Tom: No problem.
Mum: It's important to learn how to feed your pet. And you must know how to care for it.
Tom: I will.
Mum: Like you, your pet wants to be loved. -
