A diary of an Olympic volunteer



    It’s my honor to become the youngest one in a bunch of Olympic volunteers. I never expected it to be easy to serve so many people on my first day, but I never thought it would be such an extraordinary experience.

      As a volunteer, I am a tour guide to help foreigners learn Chinese culture. I told the foreigners how big China is; how long the Great Wall is; how many heroes lay down his life for the Chinese liberation. And I also told some history, Chinese diet habit and people’s spirits to the foreigners, and I can interpret many things, too. Such as, what the mascot(吉祥物) for the 2008 Olympics is and why we choose this.

        I met a handicapped man. He pointed at his broken legs and asked me, “Is there any possibility for me to ever be an athlete?” The poor man started crying bitterly. “There isn’t a chance; I’m just a piece of crap…” He chocked. “No, believe yourself. Disabled people can show strong abilities which will make disabled people marvel at(对…感到惊奇).” The man took my encouragement, wiped off his tears and swore to get well again.

      As an Olympic volunteer, I still have a lot to improve. I’m satisfied with my work today. And I believe every volunteer is. We are just like bright candles that lights the whole Olympic Games up!
