How I Have Spent My Life

We were all students together many, many years before. We had finished the noodles at the end of the meal, when the monitor said, "Let's take it in turns to talk about our experiences."

Cathy started," I have travelled a lot. Because of my work I have visited many countries. I have seen the River Amazon, shopped in Paris, seen the snow in Canada, and been riding on a camel in the Arabian Desert."

Joyce said, "I have been very successful and am rich. I have opened many businesses, worked hard and had plenty of good ideas."

"Well, I have done a lot of good things. I have spent my life looking after people in hospital, raising money for the hospital's services and helping people," said Ricky.

Next was Ken. Once he was a cute little boy; now he was a serious older man with heavy glasses and not much hair. "I have worked in a science research centre. I have been busy in my laboratory day after day. I have always been thinking about the future and helping us get ready for it."

Then there was silence.

"So what about you, May?"

May smiled sweetly, "I have done everything you have all done."

"How can that be?"

"I have travelled all around the world and into space and into the past and many other wonderful things, all through the world of books. I have done well by looking after my old parents. I have prepared for the future by bringing up a lovely daughter. I have beenvery happy, and I am rich in love."

Everyone agreed this was the best life of all. What do you think?
