Mrs Kong felt too hot, so she got out of bed and went to stand by the window. There was a full moon and she could see the street clearly. There was a stranger standing under a tree. Was he waiting for someone? She watched him. Then a man who lived across the road came riding home on his bicycle. He went to open the door. The stranger under the tree suddenly moved forward. Mrs Kong could see him in the bright light. He pushed his way into the building before the man could stop him. Mrs Kong was worried. Was something wrong? She waited. There wasn't any noise, and a bit later a light went on in an upstairs room. Maybe the two men were friends. She returned to her bed and was soon asleep.

    When Mrs Kong came home from work the next day, her husband was waiting to tell her something. He looked very excited.
    "There has been a murder. A man in the building across the road is dead. Someone killed him with a knife. The police have been very busy, but there is not much information. Have I frightened you? You look very pale. Sit down—I will get some tea."
    "I saw the killer," said the white-faced Mrs Kong.
    Mrs Kong went to the police and gave them a description. "He was a well-built man, not very tall. He looked about 30. He had long, straight, black hair. He had small eyes and a flat nose. He was wearing jeans and a blue shirt."
    The police brought out a book of photos.
    "Do you mean this man?"
    "Yes, that's him."
    "Or this one?"
    "Yes—it is the same man, isn't it?"
    "Unfortunately not. They are twins. This is going to be very difficult."
