The Wolf and the Lamb

The Wolf and the Lamb
One day, a Wolf met with a Lamb astray(ad. 迷途地,入歧途地) from the fold(n.羊栏). So he decided not to lay violent hands on him.He tried to find some plea(n.借口) to prove the Wolf's right to eat Lamb. He thus addressed him:“Sirrah, last year you grossly insulted(v.侮辱) me.” “Indeed,” bleated(羊的叫声) the Lamb in a mournful(a. 悲恸的,悲哀的,令人惋惜的) tone of voice, “I was not then born.” Then said the Wolf , “You feed in my pasture(n. 牧场).” “No, good sir,” replied the Lamb, “I have not yet tasted grass.” Again said the Wolf, “You drink of my well(n. 井).” “No,” exclaimed the Lamb, “I never yet drank water, for as yet my mother's milk is both food and drink to me.” The Wolf seized(v.突然抓住) him and ate him up, and said: “Well! I won't remain supperless(a. 未吃晚饭的,没有晚饭的), even though you refute(v. 驳斥,反驳) every one of my imputations(n. 归罪,负责,责难).”
