We are pleased to announce that the 5th International Conference on Web-based Learning (ICWL 2006), organized by the Hong Kong Web Society (HKWS) is to be held in Penang, Malaysia. ICWL is an annual international conference on web-based learning. The first ICWL was held in Hong Kong in 2002. Since then, it has been held in Melbourne, Australia (2003), Beijing, China (2004), and Hong Kong (2005). ICWL 2006 is to be held in July 19-21, 2006. Location Penang is Malaysia’s second largest city. It is the home of numerous multinational electronic and IT assembly plants. It is a major tourist destination served by regular international airline connections. There are numerous beach Hotels and broadband connections are available. Penang is a food paradise.

Conference Format ICWL2006 will continue the success of previous four conferences to bring together high caliber researchers and practitioners in web-based learning. The technical program will feature keynote addresses, tutorials, technical presentations and demonstrations of refereed papers. Topics relevant to the conference theme include, but are not limited to, the following: · e-Learning Standards, Platforms and Tools · Learning Resource Deployment, Organization and Management · Practice and Experience Sharing · Pedagogical Issues · Web-based Learning for Oriental Languages
Paper Submission Authors are invited to submit original papers reporting research results or novel applications in web-based learning. Papers for submissions should be formatted in single column, 1.5 spacing of no more than 12 pages for review. All papers should be submitted in PDF format according to the instructions of Springer’s Lecture Notes of Computer Science (LNCS). The informal pre-conference proceedings will be available at the conferences. The papers presented at the conference will undergo another round of review and selected ones will be published as a volume in Springer’s LNCS (planned).
Special Issues and Awards Authors of the best papers presented in the conference may be invited to submit extended versions of their papers for possible publication in a special issue of ACM Trans. on Internet Technologies and/or a special issue of World Wide Web: Internet and Web Information Systems (WWWJ) on Web-based Learning.. Best paper awards and best student paper awards will be given to the best papers presented in the conference. |
