BACKGROUND:
ICCE/ICCAI will return to Taiwan in the year 2000.
The first three International Conferences on Computers
in Education (ICCEs, 1989, 1991 & 1993), a spin-off of
the International Conference on Computer Assisted
Instruction (ICCAI) in Taiwan, were held in Taiwan.
They were successful and memorable events, that launched
and established a forum for international scholarly
exchange and interaction in the area of computers and
education. Moreover, the Conference has been fostering
the creation and dissemination of knowledge about the
use of information technology in education throughout
the Asia-Pacific region. Since 1995 the ICCE series has
been organized by the Asia-Pacific Chapter of AACE
(Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education).
While subsequent ICCEs have been held in different Asian
countries- Singapore (1995), Malaysia (1997, held annually
ever since), China (1998) and Japan (1999), ICCAI continues
to be held annually in Taiwan. It is significant for both
ICCE and ICCAI to be again united and held in Taipei, Taiwan,
in the year 2000.

CONFERENCE THEME:
LEARNING SOCIETIES IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM:
CREATIVITY, CARING & COMMITMENTS
**********************************************
The conference theme, indicates a focus on creative
learning, caring for diverse cultures and global issues
and committing oneself to a new way of learning/instruction
via computer-mediated-communication technologies for
the next century. In an effort to continue seeking the best
possible ways to exploit technologies for enhancing learning,
we invite participants to contribute further insights on the
areas below- areas that will challenge global citizens in the
new century.
1.What sort of learning society will be formed in the new
millennium through our collective efforts toward creativity,
caring and commitment on the Internet?
2.Through this new learning society, will we be able to
educate learners as well as educators of the next
generation to be creative and caring and to make a
commitment to creating a new kind of learning
environment?
The conference will focus on three areas: Pedagogical
Issues, Social Issues and Technological Issues. We hope
that participants will be able to expand their own knowledge
by sharing their ideas and expertise with each other.
